The Dome of the Rock
Located at Temple Mount, this beautiful Muslim shrine encloses the rock on which Abraham nearly sacrificed his son, where Jacob saw the ladder to heaven, and from where the Prophet Muhammed ascended to heaven. It is one of Jerusalem’s best-known landmarks.
The Western Wall
Also located at Temple Mount, this is considered the holiest shrine of the Jewish world. The wall is the only remainder of the Second Temple of Jerusalem, razed in 70 AD by Roman forces under Titus. The tradition of slipping in prayers written in paper in the cracks of the wall has goes back 2,000 years.
City of David
Now named the Arab village of Silwan, this is the oldest part of Jerusalem. Biblical figures such as David, Solomon, and the prophets walked here, and the Song of Songs was inspired by its ancient gardens. It is best visited with a guide or on an organized tour.
Church of the Nativity
Tradition has held that this church marks the site of Jesus’ birthplace. It is the oldest surviving church in the Holy Land. By Plane

By Bus
Buses run from early morning to late evening, and they operate until midnight in the major cities. Avoid traveling at rush hours (7-8 am and 4-6 pm). Most buses are only in service two to three hours before sunset on Fridays and on the eves of Jewish holidays. From Friday afternoon until Saturday evening, there is no bus service throughout the country, although there are partial bus services in the West Bank, Haifa and East Jerusalem.
By Train
Trains are cheaper than buses and the routes run through beautiful areas in Central Israel. Services can be suspended, though, due to conflict in the region. Check if services have resumed before you leave or when you arrive. Although the trains are old, their cabins are roomy and comfortable. They run on a daily schedule save for religious holidays and the Sabbath.
By Sherut
Sherut is a shared limo or van that goes from city to city or points within cities. They often go where buses don’t go. On Saturday, they are the only transportation available.

It is pita bread stuffed with deep fried eggplant and a hard-boiled egg. For religious Jews, some McDonalds restaurants are kosher. Most Burger King restaurants are kosher too.
